In the scientific journal Nature Human Behavior, a study was published on the effectiveness of prohibitive measures in China regarding the time of playing video games among youth. Scientists came to the conclusion that the policy of local authorities does not work properly.
The authors of the study from https://luckyhavencasino.co.uk/games/ the UK and Denmark contacted the company Unity Technologies, which developed the same engine. Scientists analyzed the depersonalized data of Chinese accounts. In total, they had to process information from 2.4 billion accounts.
Scientists immediately made a reservation that there were two significant assumptions in their work. They evaluated impersonal information, that is, data not only of adolescents, but adults. Statistics were collected only by games working on the Unity engine. Nevertheless, the analysis of the data says that the population of China did not play computer games less and even vice versa.
The first restrictions in China appeared in 2019. Then adolescents were forbidden to play at night and set a temporary limit – 90 minutes on weekdays and up to three hours on weekends. Since 2021, the rules have tightened. Play is allowed only from Friday to Sunday one hour a day. The authors of the study noted that after 2019, the average total weekly game time for one player was estimated at 1.29 hours, and after tightening in 2021 – 1.51 hours.
In their article, scientists come to the conclusion that there is no evidence that current restrictive measures have a positive effect on solving the problem of game dependence.
